Palm Springs, CA (November 2, 2026) — The Palm Springs International Film Awards has announced that actress Inde Navarrette is the recipient of the Rising Star Award for her performance in Focus Features’ Obsession. The Film Awards will take place on January 7, 2027, at the Palm Springs Convention Center, with the festival running January 7-18, 2027. The event will be presented by Kering and sponsored by Entertainment Tonight and Soho House with Cadillac as the official vehicle.

“Inde Navarrette delivers a performance in Obsession that is impossible to look away from,” said Festival Chairman Nachhattar Singh Chandi. “She brings a rare combination of emotional awareness and cinematic presence to the screen. The Rising Star Award exists to celebrate exactly this kind of breakthrough talent, and we could not be more excited to welcome Inde to Palm Springs.”

Obsession follows the story of Bear, a hopeless romantic who, after breaking the mysterious “One Wish Willow” to win his crush’s heart, finds himself getting exactly what he asked for but soon discovers that some desires come at a dark, sinister price. The Focus Features film is written, edited, and directed by Curry Barker and also stars Michael Johnston, Megan Lawless, Cooper Tomlinson and Andy Richter.

Navarrette joins this year’s previously announced honorees The Invite’s Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, Edward Norton (Vanguard Award). Past recipients of the Rising Star Award include Ariana Grande (Wicked), Timothée Chalamet (Call Me By Your Name), Alicia Vikander (The Danish Girl), Jennifer Lawrence (Winter’s Bone), Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air) and Scarlett Johansson (Lost in Translation).

Obsession was a critical success with 94% on Rotten Tomatoes and cinematic phenomenon with worldwide audiences grossing over half a billion dollars globally. The film recently collected a Gotham Award nomination. Inde Navarrette is one of Hollywood’s most exciting rising talents, currently earning acclaim as Nikki Freeman in Focus Features’ Obsession, which premiered to rave reviews before its theatrical release. The indie horror-thriller has become a global phenomenon, grossing more than $500 million worldwide and bridging arthouse prestige with mainstream appeal, with critics singling out Navarrette’s gripping, emotionally charged performance as one of the film’s standout achievements. She first broke out in the fourth and final season of Netflix’s 13 Reasons Why, went on to a series regular role on The CW’s Superman & Lois, and made her Sundance debut in 2020 opposite Sienna Miller and Diego Luna in Wander Darkly. Next, she will take on the iconic role of Rogue in Marvel’s upcoming X-Men film and star in and executive produce Apple Original Films and Plan B Entertainment’s sci-fi thriller The Waffle House Index.
